Marionette Line Treatment

What are Marionette Lines?
Marionette lines are the lines which extend from the corner of the mouth to the chin. These annoying lines which cause a sad or downturned look are really concerning for many people. Often people will say that people often think they are in a bad mood or feeling sad, when they are feeling perfectly happy.

Price starts at £225 for the first syringe and £175 for each additional syringe used in the same treatment. Botox in this region is £110 for a standalone treatment and £50 when combined with a dermal filler in the same session.

What causes Marionette Lines?
Marionette folds and lines are caused by three separate factors: gravity, loss of volume and the depressor muscles at the corners of your mouth which pull down.

Gravity has the largest role to play in the development of marionette lines. Your face is affected by gravity every day. Over time you get downward and inward movement of your cheeks and face. This results in your cheeks folding over to create marionette folds and nasolabial lines.

Volume loss in the mid face region is the second biggest contributor to marionette folds and lines developing. Not only do we lose volume from the soft tissues, fat pads and muscles as we age, we also lose volume from the hard tissues too, the bone and the deep fat.

The volume loss of bone where the jawline becomes thinner and resorbs, also known as bony resorption of the mandible. This bone resorption is most evident when you see someone who has no teeth or hasn’t got their dentures in.

The final factor which is responsible for the development of marionette lines and folds and lines is when the depressor muscles of your mouth corners are constantly activated. As with any muscle, the more you use it the stronger it will become. When this muscle called depressor anguli oris (DAO) is constantly activated it creates a ‘sad face’ look.

The good news is that we can treat these with a combination of dermal fillers to reduce the appearance of the lines and folds, and Botox to relax the depressor muscles.

The treatment takes around 15 minutes, numbing cream is applied to ensure the treatment is comfortable and relatively painless.

We use premium grade products at Clinic 1 so the results will last for around 9 to 15 months.
